Can someone tell me what is the difference between Lindberg's Nantucket kit #717 and Lindberg's Nantucket kit #70860.
 
This kit has a long history. It was first manufactured by Pyro then later by Lindberg. Lindberg acquired molds of a number of Pyro kits in the late 1970's. The timeline, according to scalemates.com, is as follows:
  • 1956 Pyro #238
  • 1958 Pyro #238 (new box)
  • 1967 Pyro #B213-400 (new box)
  • 1986 Lindberg #717 (new parts)
  • 2007 Lindberg #70860 (new box)
It looks like the difference between the two Lindberg kits is the boxes. Some years ago I built a Lindberg kit and one of the challenging aspects was the "NANTUCKET" painted on the topsides. I made a stencil based on photos of the vessel.
