Let me preface this by saying it’s only for members in middle USA. I want to keep things simple.
I have a kit called the Vasa. I bought this kit over 25 years ago and planned on building it when I retired. I have a large collection of other kits I have also collected during that time. I started working on this kit about a month ago and have only got the bulkheads matched up and mounted to the keel. Before starting the planking I decided to do some research. At the same time nature played what you would call a cruel joke on me. My hands have begun to shake. While it’s not a big deal to my overall health, it means I can no longer attempt to finish this kit. I could do the major wood working but when time for the detail work and the rigging I would. Not be able to do it anymore. This is a 1:60th scale kit of almost 40 inches. When I bought it. Originally it cost $250. The kit now sells for close to $1,000.
Here’s the deal. I'd want to find someone who wants to build this kit right and has the skill set to finish it. I think I can box this up to ship but having someone who could pick it up would be even better. I live in New Castle, Indiana. I will donate the kit at no cost to anyone who fits this bill. Along with this it I have a second large scale ship kit (The J. S. Elanco) that will go with the Vasa. Again. I will give these two kits to anyone who can pick them up.
I hate to give these up but my health will make it impossible to build these larger scale ships anymore. I am going to take a step back and work. On some mid sized ship kits with less rigging.
To anyone who is interested, please DM me so we can chat about these kits. If you check my feeds you can see photos of the ;little progress I made on this ship.
I got a box to pack up the Vasa and the J. S. Elanco. It’s 40” long by 15” square. I would really like to just hand this off to someone as I’m not sure about packing the partially finished keel and bulkheads of the Vasa. I would like to find someone in Midwest that can drive at least close to Indianapolis to hand this off.
