Low Low tech

I make my own miter boxes from scrap wood, usually oak or similar hard wood since I have the tools. As far as that $175 one - my father in law (whom I detested) would have thought it was a bargain. His attitude was if it costs the most, it has to be good - oh and he was my mother in law'ss 2nd husband and her acknowledged mistake and NOT my wife's father

Save your blade.... I use a piece of scrap wood at the bottom of the aluminum miter box and no more damaged blades :=)

Oh.my.god that's so simple why didn't that occur to me! I still have the metal one and I'll do as you suggest right away.

I was about to buy what I would call a miter cutter before Christmas. It was advertised as made in Canada with free delivery for $175.
Then I realized that the price was in US funds. With the monetary exchange and tax this came to a whopping $268. Made in Canada but in US funds. Okay.
I then found a miter box designed for hobbyists/ modelers on Amazon. This cost me a booming $20 delivered. This is one tiny item but is perfect for my needs: cutting miters and straight cuts on small pieces of wood. Although it only does 45 and 90 degrees I couldn’t justify the large price difference to buy the other one.

With this simple, aluminum cutter, you can cut some other angles by cutting an angled strip of wood and clamp (or tape) it to the frame. It won't give you a wide range of angles, but it can be helpful at times.
Happy Modeling.
