Maritime museum Genua

Today visited the maritime museum in Genua.
Genua has a very rich maritime background of which Christopher Columbus is most probably the most famous.
In the museum the cover the Columbus story with original documents and the columbus fleet with three fantastic models of Nina, Pinta and Sancta Maria.


Genua was feared for their fleet of galleys on which they also provide a lot of info, models and a full size replica in which you can take a look.

Ship models they have plenty, some better than others. Even kit models like sots of sergal or la couronne.

The museum also has a collection of dioramas.
The one below with three large models.


Personally I loved this 1:48 scale diorama of a ship yard. Many of you most probably recognize the Salemandre of which this is a very fine scratch build example.


Last part of the indoor museum they take you on an immigration trip to the Americas which is very nicely done with a trip through an ocean steamer.



The last part is outdoors with a visit to the submarine which you can walk through.


In front of the museum also some old fishing vessels like leudo.



And there is much more to see, certainly worth the visit if you are in Genua.

I like the Salamandre also very much - very good build - and the presentation of all parts like masts, boat etc is very well made - really a very good diorama
The diorama with the three frigates (BTW: Do you remember which ships these three are?) is also showing very well build models
What I do not like is here that two are sailing but do not have any sails - so it is looking a little bit strange....... but very good (and interesting) models -
surprise, that the italian are showing french ships (ok- they are very close....)

That was suprizing to me as well that they show French ships as Salemandre and the other one looks like a 74 gun and was called Judith.
The other two black and white vessels I dont have the names from.
