Reading the original Smith and Rhuiand colour scheme for Bluenose. It says masts "Oiled with an appearance of varnish" and "Mast Heads and Crosstrees white". Some modellers have taken Mast Heads to be the whole length from the cheeks to the cap, in other words all the overlapped area of the lower and upper masts. Is this the correct interpretation..? or is it just the immediate area around the crosstree. Google has so far failed me on this.Interestingly on Bluenose 2 the overlapping section of the lower mast is white beside the lower section of the topmast oiled.
