Hi, I'm a new member, 1st. post. Terry Whitchurch, a "Bristolian" (UK) now living in Australia, South of Sydney.
I had and uncle, Mum's brother, who served in the RFC WW1. He worked, initially as "Fitter Rigger" (todays "Groundcrew")
on the Nuieport Scout, biplane, the "Red Baron" era. I have bought a kit for that model, American "Model Airways", excellent details, components etc.

But, my goal is to build a scale model of the "Matthew".
As a retired Mechanical Design Engineer, I have CADD skills, having used Autodesk Inventor for many years.
I contacted John Garnish a few years ago when researching the replica in Bristol (UK)
I have a particular affection/connection with John Cabot. Bristol (UK) which has a commemorative tower, as does Canada, to Cabot.
I met my late, dear wife at Cabot Tower, Brandon Hill on 26th. July 1955, 70 years ago.
When ever I visit my home town, the tower is always on my itinerary, several times!
Through John Garnish, who's Matthew model was exhibited at the Maritime museum in Kew, (UK), I eventually was given a set of Colin Mudies drawings.
He was the navel architect who designed the "Matthew" replica. The drawings are true to scale and with my CADD skills, an easy task to create a virtual, full size model.
From these I will eventually create manufacturing drawings for a model, similar to John Garnish's excellent creation.
I have John's "Build Log", also, to assist with this task.
I still have contacts who can precisely laser cut all the components, then, as the forum has educated me, source other components.

And there's another bonus, for me, having lived in Bristol from 1936 to 1981, when we emigrated.
Brunel's S. S. Great Britain, now restored, in all her glory at her original dry dock, where built.
But, alas, too many birthdays, and very little room in my unit here in Oz'.

I'm in England, May to July, 2026, and hope to be able to contact/visit anyone with similar interests.

Warmest regards to all,
Terry Whitchurch

Greetings from the Finger Lakes of New York!

I love the screen name you came up with from your name Terry - is that an actual nickname?

I was in Sydney in May of 2000 and I remember going to Circular Quay, where they docked the Bounty replica. There was a man there who was building a model ship - must have been at least 150 to 200cm long. He would work on it right out in the open, taking donations - I don't remember the particulars, but it seemed like a worthy cause at the time. I also took a cruise on the Bounty - what a great time that was! It's too bad she was sold to some wealthy businessman from Hong Kong and ultimately decommissioned in 2017. According to wiki, her last known whereabouts were on a river in Thailand.

Looking forward to seeing your work Twitch!
