At first glance I thought it was sheer foolishness - an inexperienced young sailor at the wheel not knowing the clearance, but the small print stated that they had an engine failure and drifted out of control to the collision.
The report also stated that someone was 'dangling' for 15 minutes from the upper yards before being rescued. Good thing they used lifelines when aloft. Nothing about the who and where of the deaths - falling rigging, or falling off the broken masts .

Doubtless we'll hear more over the next 48 hours. Sad to see a tall ship in this state. Good that it wasn't dismasted rounding the Horn whilst crewed by inexperienced young sailors.
