I bought a mitre box and razor saw. I was modding a computer desk and used it to cut molding. The cut seemed to waver a bit, like the mitre box slots were a bit too wide. So what kind of box is best to use with a razor saw? Are there better ones than others? I would think if I am building a model I would need to be pretty accurate. Obviously on Amazon the quality could vary widely.

I have not started building my Dory yet. Just got it a few days ago, getting my hobby desk established this weekend. Got a lot of supplies, It will be nice to have a spot to call my own and work on things.

I had same problems in my first small miter box; the slots were wider than the blade of the saw. I built a new box and used my hand-held miter saw to cut the slots, along with accurately cut slabs of fairly slim wood clamped in place to guide the cuts. I had a small miter gauge to accurately set the 90 dree & 45 degree angles.
When in a pinch, I have used 3" X 5" file cards to accurately draw 90 & 45 degree angles. I hope this helps.
Happy Modeling,

I tend to make my own from scraps of wood and in the form of a bench hook. When the slots get worn I make another. one option is to make one with multiple channels - say 5mm, 8mm, 10mm and use it for cutting planking strips or spar dowels.
Rather than trying to cut the guides in situ I sometimes cut them (90, 45 degrees or whatever) with a small table saw, fix one piece then fix the other using the razor saw as a spacer. Two examples given below. The left one straddles the base of a Dremel drill press - useful for drilling holes along a strip as well as cutting off lengths. The other looks due for replacement.

I usually cut my planks “proud” of the finish line and then use a a shooting board with a nice sharp block plane to square up to the line.
Seems to me what works for some doesn’t work for others so you just need to find what works for you. IMG_8665.jpeg

I was thinking to 3D print one … the nice thing is, you can make one any size you want and dispose them once they get worn out, cut through etc.
