Info/Announcement Model Ship World Outage — Community Support and Update

I have suffered a very significant loss through the MSW outage – my entire La Créole build log going back to 2013 has disappeared.

At the same time, I want to say that I was always treated fairly at MSW. I am genuinely sorry that some members here had negative experiences or were even banned.

Since 2021 I have also been active at SOS, and I have always felt welcome and well integrated in both communities. Both forums have contributed greatly to my development as a model builder, and the exchange in each place has been valuable to me.

In light of what has happened, I believe this is not the moment to look back or reopen old issues. As others have said, what we have lost as a community is far greater than any individual grievance .

Let us stand together, support a fresh start, and improve whatever may not have worked perfectly in the past. Only by working together can we recover as much as possible from this loss.
"I have suffered a very significant loss through the MSW outage"

With some deference to other build logs as well -YOURS was/is beyond astonishing over the last 13 years - you diplomatically underrated the effect of your personal (our loss) Sad indeed!!!!!!

That said - I "assume" that some/many of us possibly keep post logs on our computers?

It might be so nice if MSW members also joined here rebuilding logs from saved docs :)

I’m sorry for those who relied on MSW to learn about building ship models. I also agree about the loss of invaluable information. I have also been a loyal and active member of the NRG for over 51 years. Articles and book reviews that I wrote can be found IN PRINT in the Nautilcal Research Journal. In my case, however, the loss of MSW makes no difference as like others I’m not allowed to participate, and I’ve never built one of the “banned” ship models.

Those of us who have posted here about MSW ill treatment are not doing so out of spite. Instead like me we were loyal MSW members who were personally attacked by the administrators and banned from the forum. If MSW is rebuilt, whoever will administer it should “bury the hatchet” and welcome us back into the group. Forgiveness works both ways.

Another thought: There’s an annoying ad currently running on TV by the HR company Indeed. It features a guy giving some sort of talk about computers who can’t remember the password to begin his presentation to a large audience. The ad’s punchline is “Maybe we need a new Tech Lead.”

MSW supposedly got wiped out by hackers. The forum’s administrators set themselves up with complete responsibility and authority for the forum. So they’re responsible.

Maybe MSW “Needs a new Tech Lead.”

Whether they need a new Tech Lead or not — honestly, that's not for us to say. And look, I get it. Many of us, myself included, have our history with MSW, and it doesn't take much for those old feelings to bubble back up. I won't pretend otherwise. But this just isn't the moment for that.
What happened over there is a genuine loss, not just for their members, but for the whole hobby. Years of knowledge, build logs, and research are all gone. So instead of reopening old wounds and relitigating the past, let's think about what we can actually do. Let's extend a hand. That's the kind of community we are, and frankly, that's what makes us different.

Unfortunately it’s only a loss for those privileged to open the website and to read the information. It’s a bit like the clubhouse of a county club that you’re not allowed to join burning down.

Jim i agree with you we should "Let's extend a hand. That's the kind of community we are, and frankly, that's what makes us different."

but it is two way street the NRG/MSW never wanted any part of SoS they even tried to run us out of the hobby several times without success, I highly doubt they want our help or sympathy. they want nothing to do with us never did never will. What we can do is just welcome anyone who wants to join us in this fine hobby. We are here still standing strong

as for MSW best to bring dynamite and a crane blow it up and start all over again this time with a new administrative staff and a fresh new attitude.
