Model Shipways Constitution

Wonderful looking model!! Fantastic rigging work!!

Question, did you use the kit rigging lines or other?

Your work and photography really demonstrates how these ships were the world's most complex "wind machines." All those miles of rope and timbers holding together planes of "kiting" to transform and leverage wind power into mechanical power. It's extraordinary to see it illustrated so beautifully in your piece.

I'm reading "Two Years Before the Mast" by Dana, and it is an interesting introduction to the life of ceaseless labor required to operate and maintain such a machine. What a universe of experience and knowledge it took to build, sail and navigate them as they reached their 19th century apogee.

I hope you have had a chance to visit the Constitution. (Nice to see Marilyn, too- those old sailormen would approve.)

Thank you for your kind words. Yes when I first started the model we made a trip out to Boston just to see her. She is such a magnificent ship
