I have my home up for sale and as such the workshop is packed up and in storage. So I decided on something modest to get me started…the heart is a $169 woodworking table from Harbor Freight with drawer organizers. Hopefully it will be enough space to get started, and allow me to keep things tidy for home showings.

Oh, I know it Once the cutting and sanding starts it was be a frantic cleanup when the realtor calls and want to show the house in an hour, LOL

That is all Hobby Lobby had, the obligatory green one is coming with my model from Occre. I have seen enough on the site to know know not to tempt the shipbuilding Gods by cutting wood on anything other than green!

I liked that workbench enough to buy 2. One is in the garage and the other is my main work station in the house. I thought they were a great value for the price.

I was hampered in that I want to get started in the hobby, but did not want to wait while the house was on the market. So this came to mind for a small compact area I could work on the model, keep neat, and store my supplies and tools while the house was being shown. The first thing being built on the new property is an RV barn for my 5th Wheel with a 20’x30’ workshop and a 950 sqft apartment. I’ll live there and set my shop back up while they build my home over the next year.

My only question is how do you work on your projects? Do you stand, set on a stool, or chair? And where do you put your feet and legs? Great photos too!!

I have a drafting chair I bought off of Amazon that height adjusts, my workflow plan is to cut and sand on the workbench and then once the hull is framed, I will clamp the frame in the woodworking vice. The vice adjusts for both height and tilt (from 0-90 degrees), and should give me good stable access to the entire hull. The photos are from the new iPhone 16 Pro Max, I find it has a fantastic camera, at times doing better than my digital SLR.

They have a green felt liner glued in. So while my cutting mat is not of the correct SoS green, at least the drawers are

I was looking at the large drawer, looks like plastic dividers. Just wondering if they came with the bench?
Also envious that you have such a nice set up and it's even in your living space!? If you are married, your wife must be an angel! If I made even a speck of sanding dust, my wife would have a fit!!

The drawer inserts are from Harbor Freight ($5.99 each), they had a variety of different types. I thought it would be a good place to store small tools, files, sanding sticks, etc. With my house on the market I was limited on where I could put a table and get started. Sadly, I lost my wife to cancer last June, and am newly retired, so it's just me and my Service Dog Noah (Noah is my icon picture). Being retired and disabled military I am a bit of a neat freak, so I'll keep my area tidy and clean. This was my workshop before it got packed up to sell the house.

Living/working in a home that is for sale is a nightmare!
Hopefully a) the house sells fast, and b) this temporary work surface works well for you in the meantime!

Thanks, I hope so do. Getting up every morning and cleaning, while hoping the phone rings for a showing is a pain to be sure

Also, I'm sorry for your lost. You are experiencing two major life changes within a year (losing a spouse, retirement). I pray you have strong support in your life right now?

I have a daughter and grandson who live close. And I have a very good Veterans Administration (VA) Mental Health team that are helping me work through all of this. I was blessed with 43 wonderful years together with my wife. Thank you for your thoughts and concern; I truly appreciate it!

I'm also sorry for your loss. Hopefully your new home will allow you the happiness of change. It's never easy to change, but by looking at your efforts, you are doing great ! The photos really tell it all! Including the Christmas stockings hanging on the fireplace mantle. I look forward to more of your posts. I'm about to turn 74 and I really enjoy seeing others' work spaces!

The problem with those table's are the lower front stretcher that doesn't allow your legs to go under the table, hence you cant sit right up next to the work surface.
