Montañés by Sevish - OcCre kit

Good job.
My wife asked me what i wanted for my birthday, and i said nothing. And you know what she got me? Nothing... Tactical mistake, LOL.
This is a real tactical mistake next year she won't even ask you, from now on it will be:
"Honey i'm buying your present for my birthday" or it will be "just buy what ever you want for your birthday...

(Shouting from the living room)
IN REASONABLE PRICE..."

Talking from experience ROTF

I don't know why it was hard to OcCre to research this
It may be as simple as that there is a cost for thorough research, and they do not want to add to the cost of making the kit and consequential price increases to their audience knowing most of their customers do not have the time to do their own research or in some/many cases are not concerned about the kit's accuracy. Doing one's own research can be fun for some, but an unneccesary chore for others. This is a hobby for most after all, not a history class that must be passed to graduate. :)

If it was research for small project like the latest kits they issued i would say sure.
But with mass production of a specific kit i don't think it will effect the price of the kit.
And probably they already covered the initial kit productions costs and the research they did.
But in general they really need to refresh and update their instructions for their old ships.

These kits have more waste wood after model is finished, than addition and cost of making this dolphin.
It's hard to determine what's going in company, or in head of person who designing it.

What was this issue?
Two or three days of searching? and a few questions in message?
And this all without a factory, designers, projects, without a manager, production manager? and where is the quality controller?
Sad.

Limited dolphin edition, 1/1!

But don't forget that the internet today wasn't the internet back then 15 years ago.
And it's harder to do company trip to Madrid to the maritime museum for proper research.
And in second thought the had to research the hull and the overall look of the ship, i'm sure they came cross with this info but decided to neglect this in the final design.
Although in the Santisima Trinidad they put the dolphin striker.
Interesting which model came first the Santisima or the Montañés?

And a small treat , if you will look closely on the Montañés and San Ildelfonso they just rename the ship the whole build is the same. Although in history The Montañés inspired by the San Ildelfonso but designed to be better and built better, to the most newly innovations of the time . And that's why she also much faster then other ships of this time.

So no rest for the wicked, my next build will be The Montañés from OcCre.
Will star a full build log here on Labor day May 1st.

Some brief history of the Montañés (Wikipedia):

Montañés (class) was a 74 gun third-rate Spanish ship of the line.
Design was prepared by Julián Martín de Retamosa ,Following José Romero y Fernández de Landa's system under which the San Ildefonso class had been built.
Ordered in November 1792
Launched in November 1794
She was much faster than other ships of the same era, reaching 14 knots downwind and 10 knots upwind.
In 1795 she fought a French force of 8 ships of the line (including one three-decker) and 2 frigates single-handed in the bay of San Feliu de Guíxols - thanks to her superior speed, the Montañés managed to get within range of a coastal artillery battery, forcing the French to break off the chase. In June 1805 she was put under the command of Captain Francisco de Alcedo and made part of Alcalá Galdiano's division, defending Cadiz from a possible British attack. At the Battle of Trafalgar she was assigned to the second division of Gravina's squadron. the ship lost only 20 dead including the capitan and his deputy, and 29 wounded in the battle. And was able to recapture the Santa Ana and Neptuno after their capture by the British.
commanded by José QuevedoThe Montañés took part in the capture of the Rosily Squadron at Cadiz. She also made several voyages to the Canary Islands, Balearics and Havana before being lost in a heavy storm on 10 March 1810.

Very interesting, I'm begining the Montanes, but the two main boards are missing; I'm waiting for them, and in the meantime, I'm finishing my Ugears V8 engine -)) I love that Montanes, more than HMS Victory ed limited !

The Montañés is one of their best sellers,
A great build but not without issues.
Ugears models are always fun to build
I have their R2D2 model to build, when I will finish the Montañés.
And I really don't like their HMS Victory, in this price range there are better Models of the HMS Victory.

Good luck with your build Thumbsup

Maybe Occre sold you a limited edition of that Montanes? Like an Admiralty? Just make a few big gaps on the bulkheads, like in SL or Victory, and no one will notice. KEK...
Now that you said that, I checked it out and they sell the ship in smaller packs as well as the whole ship.

In late 2000, around 2006, Deagostini was making i think it is HMS Bounty.
First magazine at newsstand was $1, with only keel and an artbook, I think.
Second set cost $2 and included frames, frames, and instructions.
Third was $3 and had tons of wood, slats, a really large amount of exotic wood, walnut, sapelli...
Because here was a newsstand on almost every major post soviet street in town i went to every one by bicycle and bought probably 15 of these magazines. Wood that would last for years...
The best part was that you had to get there before your friends, whoever got there first, got a fortune...

So, i sold them at school to people who had parts 1 and 2... of course, for other wood in exchange.
Then online crisis hit, the newsstands disappeared...Where to get wood...
