It’s taken quite a while to find what I hope is a reliable and well informed group of like minded modelers. I retired a little over two years ago and started my first wooden ship model a little over 3 years ago. The first 9 months was investigating model kits, accruing essential tools, building a work shop and acquiring my first kit, The Albatros, by Constructo. I live in Dallas and assumed finding tenured ship modelers wouldn’t be a challenge in a community of 6.5 million. Haven’t found another person with similar interest and certainly one with experience. I’ve found the adventure fantastic. Fortunately YouTube is available and a source of tips and advice. As everyone probably knows most all the challenges have been overcome by trial and error. Reading through the forum and mentioned numeriuos times and places is “building log”. I’ll be researching what that entails but suffice it to say I didn’t creat a log. I did take images all along the process and enjoy reviewing the development of the ship over time and remembering the reward of figuring out how to get a particularly challenging step completed.
I have finally come to an impass. One I anticipated from the very moment I looked at the box cover of The Albatros. Rigging the sails has stymied me. The images on the box, in the instructions, on YouTube and on line just don’t seem to help me get from one end of the line to the other! They’re all two dimensional and the reality is a complex three dimensional web. I need help to move on, finish The Albatros and start my next ship. Is there someone who's built this model that’s willing to give me some direction. I’m frustrated and proud about where I’m at with this first venture.

Hallo Doug,
welcome also from my side - I am pretty sure, that you will find here help and assistance to finish the rigging challenge....yes, we know, that this is one of the hardest work, especially if it is the first built.
In order to be able to help, it would be the best to start a building log. No need, that you show the past work, you can directly start with the status now. It will be necessary, that you show the different part of the ship, the segments of rigging, what did until now. Based on this information we can discuss and help with the final works of the ship.
In addition there are several printed books, which could be helpful.......check out the book reviews we have available in our forum
f.e.
Rigging Period Ship Models: A Step-by-Step Guide to the Intricacies of Square-Rig
Rigging Period Fore-and-Aft-Craft
both written by Lennart Petersson (click on title for the link)
or the book written by James Lees -
The Masting and Rigging of English Ships of War, 1625-1860
These books are often better than most of the youtube films

Appologies first for my ignorance but am confused about request for “building logs”. I don’t see any point in going back to create a log other than the images I took along the way. There's nothing to log at the moment because I’m stuck at rigging the sails. Essentially everything else is completed but raising the sails. I have a couple of books on rigging and, though helpful, they don’t provide the details on where to start (which sail to raise first) and how to tie off to the spars, yards and booms. Is there anyone who has built this model and did make build logs that I could review? Clearly logging one’s progress provides a wonderful historical message to attach to the ship for next generations of owners (if model survives time) but also the educational insights to another builder. Attached is a few of my image “logs”.
