I am going to be selling my modeling tools. Because of a recent illness will be moving to live near the kids in New York. Everything here will be sold because will have no workshop. All my tools are geared towards modeling, including Byrnes saw and thickness sander. Also some proxxon, etc. Problem is I cannot lift the weight. I live about 45 minutes south of Atlanta. Any ideas how to sell them without being able to carry them?
I appreciate any suggestions.
Thanks Richard

Maybe there is someone local in our forum who can assist.

You might list items and what you want for them.

I would love the Byrnes Saw, if I can afford one.

Might be worth the drive down.

Also maybe there is a local eBay vendor who can sell items for you.

It is the atlanta in Georgia.
I could get help but then the price would include shipping and handling and I understand that would be a lot. I really have no local help.
I sm not sure what would be a good price if someone wanted to pick up. If anyone could advise a range that would help. I suspect it wii end up best offer.
The saw is a flat table, both it and the thickness sander are lightly used and have no blood stains.

why not just post a picture n a price here? ask the kid next door to help pack n ship it? otherwise....

i can understand how difficult it can be. perhaps list as for pick up only? otherwise....

since these tools are hobby related... do you have any hobby shops in the area that may help you? otherwise...

garage sale.

but list the smaller tools you can handle that can be shipped.

as for prices... list m n people in here can help price them for ya.

hope it works out for you.

coming to nyc?... oh boy. jumpin out of the pan into the fire.

I have no idea what they actually sell for, but people are asking insane amounts for Byrnes Model Machines on eBay. I can't imagine they sell for what some ask since Jim Byrnes passed away and they weren't being produced for a while. If nobody here picks them up from you, you can always list them on eBay, with a "pick up only" shipping option. eBay takes a cut of what you get for what you sell, so for tools that are so sought after, I think your best bet is selling them on this forum. I'll bet there's guys emptying their piggy banks for them right now!
:D

Another suggestion. You are moving to an area where with a larger ship modeling population concentrated into a much smaller area then where you are living now. There will also be several ship modeling clubs located within easy driving distance. Move the high value items including the Byrnes tools with your other household goods. When you get to your destination advertise them as “pick up in New York.” They’ll sell quickly.

The Nautical Research Guild’s website, NRG.org, lists the addresses of affiliated ship modeling clubs. I would also contact them.

My recommendation is to sell your items on Facebook Market Place. You may need to open a Facebook account, but you can sell anything and pay no commission. Your Byrnes items should sell for a premium.

I apologize for dropping the ball on this thread. I ended up needing heart procedures and am still recovering. l am back in Georgia now and as i recuperate I will be taking photos and post them. There are a lot of great suggestions and I appreciate all your help. The idea of taking it to new york and getting a better price is a good one but I do not know yet if I will be moving some things or just selling it all off and flying up. Depends on health. I will continue to post status and hope that I tap into someone who is able to pick up locally and offers a good price. This would be the best course for me if it is possible. I will also post some of the other equipment. perhaps that would make things more attractive for someone traveling.
again, thank you all for your help.

As conditions worsen, these are my thoughts at this time. Perhaps the meds are not helping to think clearly.
As noted, these are pick up only or the buyer arranges packing and shipping. I can get them to ups or other carrier but that's about it. (illness prevents handling weight.)

I have learned that these have been going for a premium because they are difficult to get. Bids I have gotten so far are in the $1,500 for both. That does not include shipping.

The buyer would pay any packing and shipping cost if not picking up directly.

Research on current pricing from Byrnes indicates. They are no longer showing as available. But:

Byrnes Modeling Table Saw

  • 12" Table Saw: $535 as reported in early 2025 by customers after Byrnes resumed taking orders.

Byrnes Thickness Sander

  • Standard Thickness Sander: $410 reported in the same 2025 pricing list.
Just to be clear, a key to the pricing is either a pick up or dropping them off at UPS for the buyer to pay for UPS, or other, service.

I appreciate your interest and your patience during this difficult time. If not for this damn heart thing the transaction might be a lot easier, but then, I might not be selling at all.

Good Luck

Richard
