Need Help on Long Island New York disposing of Collection of kits and tools

Some folks have more fun buying than building. I'm down with that! Very cool stuff in the collection.

All good advice, here, and particularly with regard to the rifle.

What your brother-in-law has there represents a sizable fortune in kits and tools. You might consider posting on the Long Island modeling forums, and the other major tri-state club forums.

My club is The ShipCraft Guild of New York:

In order to save yourself the hassle of packing and shipping, you might consider staging a literal garage sale over a few consecutive weekends. Obviously, that may or may not be an appealing option - to have a horde of strangers descent upon your private home. However, here are the other major North East ship model clubs

I’m sorry for the loss of your brother-in-law. He must have been an interesting person. Hopefully, his family can recoup the value represented by this collection.

If I had money. it will be worth a trip from Trois-Rivieres to New-York to make some purchase. What a lot of good stuff. Proxxon tools and ultimation tool (I saw the slicer...) are a must with the lathe. SOme wooden kit are a good value too.

I’m sorry for the loss of your brother-in-law.

if you need the money, you have to have an idea of what they are worth. Go to the “completed sales” section on EBay and see what those sell, do sell for. Be exact…i.e. the Kearserge 1/96 model is likely worth more than the Constitution 1/96. With that, you can determine what they are worth and what to ask. Just remember we have a For Sale section on this site!!

This is a classic example of the problem with any collection. It’s easier to buy stuff than to get rid of it. Saying that piecing this stuff out would be a big job is an understatement. Every item has to be appraised, listed on a selling site, packaged, and shipped. Then you actually have to get paid! My only attempt at using PayPal resulted in my money getting “stranded” when they wanted personal information that I didn’t want to provide.

This advice is worth exactly what you paid for it, but here goes! There are sellers on EBay that appear to be selling hobby kits from collections that they have bought. My guess is that if you can sell the collection to one it will be at a deep discount, but you will be done, and hopefully you can demand some sort of risk free payment. I recently purchased some military figures from one such EBay seller, Julie’s Hobby Shop. They were nicely repackaged and I was well pleased with the service. If you could find one such buyer in the NYC area so much the better. You have to balance hitting the jackpot on some of the really desirable items with the use your time and payment risk to do so.

Hello,
I live in Nassau county and while I already have more kits than I could likely build in a lifetime, tools, supplies and books are always of interest to me. If possible. Email me at proc94@aol.com and perhaps I could come out and have a look at the collection.

Hi there. First of all my condolences at this difficult time for your whole family. This might help you: Old Model Kits USA is a firm that specialises in buying second hand kits. Some of these might be missing parts or have damaged boxes etc but the company grades them and reports the same to its customers.
You have not only rare kits but it some cases no longer available: Lusitania and Serapis for example. Now, there might be a way to make a deal regarding the shipping to the company. I have bought from this company in past and found my dealings with it to be professional and courteous. Kind regards Francis

The rifle you won't be able to sell on here. I would direct you to Gunbroker.com and work with a local (to you) firearms dealer to ship it to a dealer close to the person that it is getting sold to. That way it's all legal.
The rifle, assuming it is not a plastic/airsofr replica may not even be legal in your state. Take it to a firearms dealer. He can tell you what to fo. If you need any advice or assistance, I have a FFL (federal firearms license).

what would a fair price for the unimat be today? when i wanted one 40 years ago, they were about $300. that was too much for me to spend with a new house n 3 kids. so i cant imaging what they go for today.

id love to make a fair offer on it... id even pick it up.

edit... btw perhaps contacting model shops that sells those kits? better than trying to sell them one at a time.
