New 957 Midwest "Seguin" Steam Tug by Model Expo.

Two cylinder Krick steam engine. The nice part about this little engine is that it has no dead centers so forward and reverse are an easy switch of pressure flow through the engine. No reverse gear.

Ballast is rows and rows of 45 cal. lead balls laid in a few at a time paying attention to fore/aft trim while floating in the bathtub.

Funnel is a 1 1/4" chrome plated brass sink tailpiece that I chucked up in my lathe and sanded off the chrome. The bottom part is fabricated from sheet bras.

I had a little mishap the last time I raised steam in her and damn near burnt her to flinders. Luckily I was running her in the pool without the cabins in place so I was able to spot the flames immediately and splash them out. It was a bright sunny day and I couldn't see the butane flame well, and had set it too high. Burnt the boiler lagging and charred the insides of the deck.

What a gorgeous model❗I'm building Bluejacket's Seguin, 26", which won't allow your magnificent details. Thankyou for sharing.

Long time lurker, first time poster.

Are there any updates on this release? The catalog says late Spring...and it's pretty late. lol
I'm extra interested in this model because the name is fairly special to me and my family, although we have no connection to the boat itself. I would love to get started on it as soon as possible and gift it to my dad before the next decade.
I'm still fairly new to the wooden shipbuilding craft, so I imagine it'll take me a bit longer than the average time. I'm working on other smaller boats to hone my skills in the meantime, though!

@Hotspur, I hope to be half as crafty as what you've accomplished here. The details are incredible--especially the head and the items in the pilothouse! Well done.

Wing nut:
The model is almost ready to be released.
I pass by the store to see the progress two days ago and they have done many upgrades to the model to make it easier to build.

From what I could see, the only thing missing is, to produce the life boat and for that, they ordered digital printers that will be up and running very soon.
They also have a new upgrade casting and laser cutting facilities to make things move a little faster.

So I estimate that in less than two months the model will be out.
I will keep you guys informed.

Over time the door hinges break loose and I have to repair them.

For glass I use microscope cover slips (not slides). Coverslips are super thin pieces of real glass that you can score with a diamond scribe and snap just like glazers do. It doesn't scratch, discolor, or get foggy.

I have the later version of the Krick engine (model II) that I plan to use in my 50" Hartman Diana launch. My concern is that it may not have enough power. It's a pretty big launch. I did a few bench tests with the Wilesco/Krick vertical boiler and I couldn't get more than 30psi. So I have switched to a Cheddar Puffin vertical 9 flue boiler. Lots more steam!

The model I built is for Model Expo showroom. It has all of the components and ready to be launch but at the moment is seating in a showcase.

The Krick propelled the tug just fine. I even bought a bronze wheel for it instead of the plastic thing it came with and it worked great.

Someone asked about hull finish. It’s spar varnish like you would use on any wooden boat. I thinned it and sprayed it on with an airbrush. I always dried it off when taking itt out of the water. Looke as good as the day I sprayed it.
