AND TODAY's PROGRESS,

I DECIDED TO PULL AWAY FROM THE BOAT TODAY AND WORK THE WHALE HARPOON GUN. I HAD TO FILE THE KIT GUN A BIT TO LOOK LIKE I WANTED IT TOO. MY BUDDY WHO USE ALL THE MATERIAL EXCEPT FOR A FEW ITEMS AND WOOD LEFT THE GUN. SO I WORKED IT OVER TO MY LIKING...

THANK YOU FOR THE LIKES!!!

SO ONWARD WE GO WITH ADDED MORE OF LITTLE THINGS. I TRIED CARVING THE LOGGERHEAD INSTEAD OF JUST TURNING IT ON THE LATHE. NEXT TIME IT'S THE LATHE. I AM STICKING WITH WHAT I DO BEST...HAHA!

TRYING TO BETTER MY METAL WORKING SKILLS WHICH I HAVE NON TO SPEAK OF. THE TUB OAR LOCK WAS A LITTLE CHALLENGE WITH SILVER SOLDERING. IT CAME OUT PRETTY GOOD. SOLDERING SMALL ITEMS IS A CHALLENGE FOR ME. LARGER ITEMS NO BIGGIE. RONNBERG HAS THIS IN HIS BOOK, BUT THESE WERE USED IN THE LATE 1860's THRU EARLY 1870's. WHY HE HAD THIS IN HIS BOOK AND ON THE PLANS??? ALL I CAN FIGURE IS THE BOAT DID NOT CHANGE MUCH IN EVERYTHING ELSE SO MAYBE THAT's WHY. I AM JUST GUESSING HERE. IF I WANTED TO USE IT I COULD???

JIM, BRIAN, SHOTA, and PT,
THANKS A LOT GUYS, and FOR ALL THE LIKES. CHECKER BOARD FLOOR AH PT!!! LOL

WELL HERE WE GO AGAIN WITH MY ADVENTURES IN METAL WORKING. LOOKING HOW RONNBERG WENT ABOUT MAKING THE GRAPNEL ANCHOR. I SAID OH BOY, MINE WAS NOT GOING TO COME OUT THAT GOOD. SO I HAD FIGURE SOME OTHER WAY TO WORK WITH MY FEEBLE METAL TALENTS.

SO HERE WE GO....I HOPE THE PICTURES EXPLAIN ENOUGH OF WHAT I WENT THROUGH. IF NOT PLEASE ASK AWAY. I REALLY LIKE SHARING WHAT I GO THROUGH IN HOPES IT WILL ASSIST OTHERS IN THEIR MODELING ADVENTURES.

HEY EVERYONE,
JUST BEEN BUSY MODELING AND GETTING THINGS READY FOR THE CHANGE OF SEASONS.
JUST DOING ALL THE LITTLE THINGS ON THE W.B. ONCE I THINK I HAVE EVERYTHING IN ORDER I WILL BE WORKING ON ALL THE EQUIPMENT FOR THE BOAT. I DID THE RACKS FOR THE HARPOONS AND LANCES FROM BRASS. THE RUDDER IS DONE AND AGAIN METAL WORK WITH THE PINTALS AND GUDGEONS. LANDYARDS ARE ALL OVER THIS BOAT SO STARTED A LITTLE RIGGING HERE ALSO. THEN I DECIDED ON THE LANTERN.
MY SCORE WORKING WITH METAL WAS PRETTY GOOD TILL I RAN INTO THE LANTERN. MY JOURNEY WENT THRU 5 DIFFERENT TRIES AT THE LANTERN. AFTER NUMBER 5 I WAS PLAYING WITH JUST BUYING ONE. BUT GAVE IT ONE LAST TRY WILL OL RELIABLE INSTEAD OF BRASS, AND I DUMPED ON THE METAL WORK ALL TOGETHER.
AS FOR THE COMPASS I AM THINKING ON THAT ONE RIGHT NOW AS I TYPE. NOW I GUESS THE FACE OF THE COMPASS IS CALLED A ROSE? DON'T KNOW WHERE TO FIND ONE TO MAKE THE FACE. SO ANY SUGGESTION WOULD BE WELCOMED. THE MAST IS NEXT UP. SO HERE IS MY PROGRESS.

HELLO EVERYONE,
HAVEN'T BEEN BY IN A BIT. GOT BUSY WITH SOMETHINGS AND I LIVE IN SO. CALIFORNIA AND THE WEATHER IS JUST OUTSTANDING, SO SPENT THE WEEKEND AT THE BEACH IN OCTOBER. ONLY IN CALIFORNIA IN THE CONTINENTAL USA.

THANKS UWE FOR YOUR YOUR KIND WORDS....

I AM ALSO VERY GRATEFUL FOR ALL THE LIKES TOO...THANKS MY FRIENDS!!!

OK NOW HERE WE GO....

I AM COMING DOWN NOT VERY MUCH ELSE TO DO ON THE BOAT ITSELF. SO I WILL BE FOCUSING ON ALL THE EQUIPMENT THAT GOES INTO THE BOAT. PLUS HOW I WILL DISPLAY THE MODEL. SO THINGS MAY BE SLOWING DOWN A BIT ON MY PROGRESS. I HOPE NOT TOO MUCH BECAUSE I REALLY WANT TO GET BOTH MODELS DONE SO I CAN GO ONTO OTHER PROJECTS.

I DECIDED TO GO WITH A DIFFERENT CONFIGURATION ON THE SAILS. BY ADDING A JIB, BOOM AND A GAFF. JUST THOUGHT IT WOULD LOOK GOOD AND IT WAS AN OPTION WITH SO MANY CONFIGURATIONS THESE WHALE BOATS HAVE.

Thank you all so much for stopping by,

I have really enjoyed building this boat from scratch. I am setting things up now to finish her off. Since I am pretty much done with my Hannah. The rest of the build will be pretty much be done inside my home at my desk. My wife wants me to make her a live edge computer table. I got the live edge slab and getting that setup too in my shop. A retired mans work is just never done. LOL! So I will be updating this build soon.

Great log to follow your work all of the way with these finishing details in wood and metal. Good ideas to try and remember for future needs. Nicely done whale boat. Rich (PT-2)
