Started my first wooden ship on February 15, 2025. Grew up at the mouth of Chesapeake Bay in Virginia. From a young age, I have always wanted to build a wooden ship. My grandfather, who was a captain in the U.S. Navy, took me to the Mariners Museum in Newport News, Virginia. Their wooden ship models always captivated me. Bought the Buccaneer from OcCre as my first build. I have had so must fun learning a new hobby and working with wood instead of plastic or metal. I look forward to finishing this one and then starting on the Santisima Trinidad Cross-section.

WELCOME to SoS. IF you are still not too far away, a day or two in Annapolis with at least a half day or or more at Preble Hall will amaze you. I am not sure if they still meet or when but there is/was a volunteer group doing restorations under the supervision of the curator on Thursdays and Saturdays that can add a lot to a visit.

Thanks for the insight. I do want to get to Annapolis especially since my grandfather graduated from the Academy in 1935. Now I know there is more to add to a visit there.

Thank you for the kind word. Just hoping I can get the masts, sails, and rigging done as well. I have made a number of mistakes but learned so much. I really would love to show it to my grandfather and talk to him about it since he was the one who sparked my interests as a child.
 
Welcome Rebus to the forums and greetings from Texas. I am currently reading the book "Skipjack" by Christopher White of the famous boats of Chesapeake Bay. I had no idea of the history of the fishing industry there! Magic Mike
