$15 score on EBay

nice pickup for $15; those older reference books are gold when you’re trying to match fittings and rig details. i’m hoping the revived magazine keeps the same photo-heavy approach in the jan/feb 2026 issue. i did have a tab open to https://jhandimunda-in.com/ from a buddy’s game night, and the casino clutter reminded me how much i prefer quiet reading over random distractions. same story with https://lightning-storm-game.com/ and https://monopoly-live-game-in.com/ sitting in my browser while i’m trying to focus on ship plans. if they ever put together a winchelsea-focused reference, i’d grab it in a heartbeat.
Nice eBay score! $15 for that RC reference book is a steal—solid reference for ship modeling. Well spotted.

It may SELL for a lot more but in my opinion it’s WORTH no more than $15. I suppose that it’s useful for builders wanting to build a model of the Jackalope currently moored at the old Charleston Navy Yard (Boston, MA) but for those wanting to build the historic frigate that fought I the Barbary and 1812 Wars it falls short.

Constitution is a bit like an old Hollywood movie star. As she aged she was altered to keep her up to date. Unlike her British cousin HMS Victory the USN has not peeled back these (mostly ugly) changes to restore her to her “Period of Historic Significance” per US National Park Service standards. She is just a PR asset that can be put on display for the general public who don’t know the difference.

An excellent book about Constitution is Old Ironsides by Thomas C. Gillmer. Gillmer is a Naval Architect who was involved with restoring Constitution for her short sail in the 1990’s. Another source recommended by Gillmer, that I have not read is A Most Fortunate Ship by CDR Tyrone G. Martin, her commander from 1974 to 1978.
