Hi Everyone,

I came into the hobby from plastic modelling and painting and have one plastic and one wooden ship under my belt. My current project is a scratch buld of HM Post Ship Perseus. Like many I lost my logs on MSW and am still figuring out what restarting them looks like.

Here are some pictures of some of my work:

Hey! Excellent techical work1 Very artistic portrayal of rough seas. SoS has a large population of MSW "refugees" who are prospering in their new home. Welcome!

Welcome to the forum!

The U-Boat diorama looks amazing! How do you achieve a realistic seascape? I've got a ship in a bottle to build and it's one of the areas I'm unsure of how to get the best result.

All the best!

The underlying shapes are made of pink insulation foam. I covered them with a layer of epoxy putty which I used to add in the smaller ripples. For the shape you just need to look at lots of reference photos.

The colour was achieved by airbrushing lots of things layers of paint. I started with a very dark bluey green and then built up towards a real colour near the tops of the waves and where the foam from the uboat would be.

The foam itself is white acrylic ink and small bits of cotton balls.

In general the techniques you should use depend on what you are trying to do and what your scale is. I also make miniature ships (1/1200) and for them I use crinkled up foil. If I was portraying a ship on calm Pacific waters I might use resin. It all depends on the effect you are going for.

Glad to see you again. I am sure you will enjoy your time here with both old friends and new.
