I want to show you a new set from the Russian manufacturer of sets of Eskadra models. Model of the cutter Опыт( Experience), built in 1806.Scale 1:72
The Opyt boat, 1806 is a single-masted sailing boat with a wooden hull. The length was 20.1m, the width according to various sources was from 6.68 to 6.7 m, and the draft was from 2.8 to 2.84 m. The armament consisted of fourteen 12-pounder carronades, and the crew consisted of 53 people.
The boat was one of six sailing and rowing vessels of the Russian Imperial Navy that bore this name.
In 1807 and 1808, Gavriil Ivanovich Nevelskoy served as the commander of the boat "Experience"
A bit of history.
In 1808, the Russian Empire got involved in the so-called Finnish War against Sweden. Russian Russians were supported by Britain, whose ships caused significant damage to the Russian fleet. On June 11, 1808, a small Russian boat, the Opyt, with 14 guns (12 pounders) and a crew of about 50 people, conducted reconnaissance in the area of Nargen Island in the Gulf of Finland. Suddenly, he ran into the English 44-gun frigate Salsette (according to Russian sources, a 50-gun frigate). The commander of the boat, Lieutenant Commander Gavriil Ivanovich Nevelskoy, realizing the incommensurability of the weapons of the "Experience" with the firepower of the frigate, ordered to leave.
The sailors pulled at the oars. The race has begun. However, the British were inexorably gaining on them. Then "the desperate captain Nevelskoy, realizing that it is better to destroy the ship than to give it into the power of the enemy... he ordered the rowers to hold the ship on a shoal that was visible not far away in order to crush it on the rocks" (Exploits of the Russian troops in the war of 1808-1809 in Finland). Suddenly, a gust of wind tipped the boat onto its side, tearing the sails, breaking the mast and oars. Having lost other opportunities, the lieutenant commander ordered a battle.
The whole team moved on to the guns. The "Experience" responded to the offer to surrender with a volley from 7 guns on one side. In response, the British literally shot the boat at point-blank range from a variety of guns that had a larger caliber than the artillery of the "Experience". However, the boat, which had suffered a lot of damage, continued to resist. The British fired a second salvo ("full broadside"), which knocked over 5 guns from the boat's side facing the frigate and caused holes in the waterline area, causing the ship to leak. Two dead sailors and many wounded, including Lieutenant Commander Nevelsky, were left lying on the deck. The British, commanded by Walter Bathurst, took the Russians aboard their ship.
"Having recovered a little, Nevelskoy offered his sword to the commander of the English ship. - As a sign of respect for your bravery, I leave it with you, - the commander replied, - I will do everything possible to save the life of such a devoted
