For the last month or so, I've been creating another new kit for BlueJacket Shipcrafters. This one is a skipjack in 1/24 scale and was inspired by the old Laughing Whale "Oyster Pirate" kit. With the exception of dowels and three strips of basswood, the wood parts of this kit are all lasered. The basic framework is 1/8" poplar plywood, deck and sides are 1/32" plywood, and the bottom is 1/16" basswood. Decks, sides, and bottom pieces all have the plank seams lasered onto them. Kit will include the usual cast britannia fittings and sail cloth. Pictured below is the final "proof of concept" assembly. It showed me a few items to be tweaked, so I've adjusted the drawings and am currently building the display model from what will now be the production parts. The fish well will be filled with model railroad ballast (included in the kit) to simulate a load of oysters.
