Hi there,
after lurking for a long time, I decided to join here :)
I live in southern Spain and have been building model ships intermittently for several years. I recently starting scratch building from Ancre monographs, and my goal is to eventually have the knowledge and skills to build from historical plans. My main interest is Mediterranean ships.
I completed the Santa Caterina 1,5 years ago and am now building a stern cross section of La Mahonesa with full interior.

Hi K Larsen

I have not been to southern Spain for many years but we are hoping to visit Alicante, Cartagena, Malaga, and/or Gibraltar, next year depending on the cruise itinerary we choose. If you had to choose two of these four ports, which would you pick? Thanks K

Hello!
I haven't been to Alicante, but these are my opinions regarding the others:
Gibraltar: Interesting and peculiar city with a lot of history, it's not a beautiful city in my opinion, but nonetheless worth visiting. Be sure to take the lift to the top of the Rock.
Malaga: I lived there for some years, it's become a lot more touristy the last years and lost much of its charm. I wouldn't prioritise it.
Cartagena: I've only been much, but it's a charming city with a lot of naval history (it has a naval museum and you can see the entrance to the arsenal). Also there's a beautiful roman theatre.

So I'd probably pick Gibralter and Cartagena. Thumbsup

Your models are absolutely wonderful! Welcome to the forum!

I'll bet I know which one Allan will definitely visit! ROTF

Nice work! My wife is from Galicia, north west corner of Spain. I'm told this region is were many historic wooden ships were constructed due the the nearby supply of natural forested oak in particular. her father and most all of the men in her family and from her village go to sea for work, either on merchant vessels or fishing boats.
