Hi all, thanks for letting me join,i hope i dont appear too boring and ask some obvious questions.I have been building ships in bottles for quite some years now and completed lots in all sizes of bottles in the traditional method of square rigged ships etc.I am not up to scratch with all the rigging and other ship terms.I am 74 and suffer from severe back issues that make it difficult to stand for a few minutes or walk more than 50 metres or so before seizure or extreme pins and needles stops me in my tracks.Anyhow as i said many bottles later, recently this year,i have been working with large 4.5 litre and similar bottles and the arctic has drawn my attention so the last 3 ships have that finished look.I do not or have not as yet tried to simulate any particular ship but built what appealed or was possible to build in each chosen bottle.I can and do only work on half a kitchen table and that's always been the way.Of course it doe's create issues but i have always managed to fashion a decent looking vessel and bottle.Mostly not with any real detailed deck work, cabins etc as working on the scale required is mostly beyond my skill level.Today i frosted the rear of a large gallon /4.5 liter bells that houses a 20 cm ship, black with weathered sails, first go at this finish an i am very pleased with the result that gives a cold faint blue arctic sky that gets slightly darker on the horizon setting the mostly black ship off nicely.Well that's not a great intro i suppose but i am self taught and have never joined a ship builders site before but hope to learn lots of tips and advice from the established experienced members.Pete. Hi Pete. A warm welcome to the SoS. There is nothing wrong with your intro, not boring at all.:) We have not many ‘ships-in-bottle-builders’ here on the SoS, so perhaps you can post some pictures of yours? I would loved to see them.
Regards, Peter

Hello Pete,
A warm welcome to our forum.
Just like the others, I’m also curious to see what your work looks like.
I always look at ships in a bottle with great admiration, and actually, I’m quite curious about how something like that is made. So, maybe it would be an idea to document a new build?
