I bought a HMS Victory ship kit of AliExpress about 3 years ago for about £25. I've missed placed the instructions which were on a sheet of A4 paper and in Chinese with not the best instructions to follow. So I ordered another one last week this time the instructions are on 2 sheets of A4 paper in Chinese instructions. So then I ordered the ZHL Black Pearl that's how I got interested in wooden ship building !

Welcome aboard.

Third time lucky eh? The Black Pearl is a popular kit. I hope it has some English instructions?

This is the box it comes in from AliExpress but I'm sure you can get it from eBay and Amazon !

Hi again Smithy I've just realised you're not looking for the The Black Pearl kit. You were saying to me about third time lucky

Welcome aboard from Connecticut! If you are a first time builder, may I suggest you start out with a simpler project, to get your feet wet. There can be a steep learning curve involved and it can be frustrating. I started out with a simple dory and then a sailing pram. They were both great starter kits and taught me a lot!

Model Shipways Shipwright 3 Kit Combo Series

This is a great starter set at a good price and it included tools you will need (you will want many others) they also have the same models without tools, if you are already set up. Also look at the beginners corner forum, and the wonderful building logs our members have been so kind to show us.

We are all here to help!

I am new to the site also. I have been buildimg multi media kits by model factory hiro. It was time for a change. In my youth i started an amati royal caroline and never finished it. After a lot of research i bought the occre san juan. Skeleton and decking done. About to start bulwarks and planking. I am enjoying the kits quality amd also the joy of wood modeling. Any hints from those who might have built tjis kot? Cheers

Hello Anthony

I’m almost finished with USS Confederacy. I finished the Santa Maria recently. When I finish Confederacy I’ll go back to my HMS Blandford that I started about a year ago. Then eventually I will complete my USS Constitution.

As you can see I’ve got several irons in the fire.

And then assuming I’m not called home I’ve got a stash of kits in their boxes in a closet waiting to see the light of day.

Respectfully

Craig

I didn't know you were replying to me, sorry.

If you want someone to get a notification that you have replied, press the 'reply' button bottom right of their comment. That's what I did this time and you will see that your words are quoted along with my reply.

You can also type @ followed by their username. Usually just the first four or five letters are enough - a list of names will appear. Select the person and they get a notification that they have been mentioned. Just writing Anthony53 doesn't trigger an alert but @Anthony53 does.

Welcome, I after an interest for decades started wooden ship building a few years ago. Take the advice of the great builders here, which I am not one of ! Start simple and finish a build. Starting complex is a road to frustration. Then again I've seen people make Masterworks of their first ship. If you're building kits which you are buy the tools needed and buy quality tools. You get what you pay for. Trying to do this work without the proper tools is a headache waiting to happen. Good luck.
