Hello,
I'm new to this whole world. I used to build lots of plastic models but it's been decades. I'm 65 now and retired for some years. Looking for something for spare time.
I read some of the threads especially the one on getting started. I just purchased this set of three kits which was recommended in the getting started section. I'd dearly love to build something more complex but decided to heed the advice often mentioned in the forum and starting small.

You'll find those start boat kits are great help in learning the skills you truly need for more complex builds. As Graham and Rebus said, please post pictures of your progress and ask questions on this forum. You will never find a lack of help and advice here.

the polaris by occre is doable and not overly difficult. it was my first step after the series that you ordered. my kit was missing something and occre was very good about sending it (by fedex no less) plenty of videos to assist.cheers
 
Welcome. I’m also retired and just getting started. What I’ve learned so far is this is a lot more complicated than I ever imagined. I’ll probably also start with the three-boat kit as it seems to be recommended by many here. Good luck to you.

Welcome to SoS!

With regard to the Model Expo starter set, to paraphrase an ancient knight templar, “you have chosen wisely.” Have fun with those.

Others’ mileage may vary, but from my own (admittedly limited) experience I would recommend once you have completed those kits that you look elsewhere than ME for your next build unless you can find one of their vintage kits somewhere. IMHO they’ve taken some short cuts over the last couple of decades and their kits are not what they once were.
