I’ve been pondering what to use as a moulding on the stern of a model.
Has anyone ever used banding for this purpose. I’ve used it many times on furniture projects and it looks quite good in my opinion.
I know it’s not historically correct by a long shot but just doing a poll here.

I’m not replacing the moulding. I was thinking of putting a very tiny strip of the banding in the middle of it. Just for a different look.
I was inquiring to see if anyone has ever done this. Probably the carpenter coming out of me.

Northeastern Scale Lumber (https://www.northeasternscalelumber.com/) sells a wide variety of moldings for doll houses. I have used the double bead molding which comes in a wide variely of sizes quite a bit on my models. Other doll house suppliers may sell similar material. Attached is a photo of a stern on a scratch model I made with these moldings.IMG_0293 copy.jpg

Doll house (more specifically the hobby of miniatures) supplies are a great source of parts for model ship building...especially moldings as noted above. I also use styrene plastic shapes. I use them a lot actually. Go https://evergreenscalemodels.com/ for one excellent source of styrene plastics. I keep a good supply of various shapes to grab when in need of extra molding which is not normally supplied with kit parts. The styrene can be bent, curved, left as white, or painted. I use very light drops of CA gel to glue the styrene to a model…caution…too much CA can melt the styrene plastic…so use sparingly.
