Not to brag about my Byrnes Model Machines Thickness Sander, but I'm kind of a fan.

The thickness sander from Jim Byrnes is top shelf. I did learn quickly to get an adapter for the shop vacuum though as the sander produces a very fine sawdust that will coat everything in a room in a few minutes of sanding.

Yeah, that's one of the first things I did when I got it, good thing it fits the saw, too.
 
What was source for vacuum adapter, in past few times I have used mine, I taped the hose to top of unit, held for the short time I needed it but not much longer.
 
Amazing! What type of wood is that?

I can only dream of owning one! Unfortunately,they are not making them at present - only the saws :(
Even if the sanders were available, cost of shipping to Australia is astronomical. Does anyone know of alternative thickness sander please?

Me three! ROTF ROTF ROTF That's what I call the "Byrnes Trifecta!" They'll set you back a few dollars, but there's no better "bang for your buck" for modeling tools than these three. The table saw and thickness sander alone will free a modeler from the tyranny of dimensioned stock forever and the savings will pay for the machines many times over.

If you are looking for an adapter to fit whatever you have for a vacuum, to burnes’ machines, make a visit to your building supply store. I found pvc pipe and plumbing elbows did the trick.
 
Along with the pluming parts David mentions look for rubber flexible connectors. These slip over pipe and are secured with hose clamps. The dust collection industry does not seem to believe in standardization. Be prepared to assemble your system on the floor of the store.

  1. Shop-Vac 906-87-19 Universal Tool Adapter (rubber)
  2. Bosch VAC003 35 mm hose‑to‑1 1/4″ port adapter (plastic)
  3. Both parts are readily available on Amazon.
Technique:
  1. Cut off the larger section (including the square part) and the two smallest sections from the Shop‑Vac adapter.
  2. Slip the modified, smaller end into the Byrnes saw’s dust port.
  3. Attach the Bosch adapter to your vacuum hose, then insert it into the Shop‑Vac adapter.
  4. The rubber-to-plastic fit creates a snug seal—no duct tape needed
