Old model ship kit.

I have the same kit in my stash. It is one large box of wood. Have not tried to sell it as can't find any one with the slightest interest. Guess I will give mine away, some day, some time, some where. Good luck with yours.

Defiantly an old kit, as Model Expo moved to Florida many years ago.

There are several build logs of those who built this kit.

I bought a half build kit from a member who gave up on it a few years ago, with plans to finish it in the future.

if you ever consider giving it away... i would definately love to give it a go right after i finish my flying fish in about 3 years?

I need to offer my apology to those who responded to my earlier post. I went to storage and dug through the stacks of kits to find the the Sovereign of the Seas kit, well it was a Sergal kit, but it was the HMS Victory kit. It was purchased at a yard sale and is truly a big box of wood. Heck, the plans themselves must weight at least 2 lbs.. Sorry for the incorrect info.

How do you mean that, Kurt? That it is an older model, or that it is so old that it's worthless today?
The kit is so old that it is a collectable by itself, without being built. It has historical value within itself, in the history of model building. It may actually increase in value due a bit to its age at this point. - They don't make 'em like they used to.

I'm thinking that's one of those lost models. I haven't seen one of those kits since the mid-70s. They were made by Revell, and hobbyists usually built them as bookends. They built both together The Sovereign of the Seas and The HMS Victory. I've never seen the wooden version of The Sovereign. As far as Model Expo goes, I started dealing with them at the beginning of the 90s when they were working out of Pennsylvania, which must have been after the New Jersey operation. Therefore, your kit must be in the vicinity 40 to 50 yrs old, making it a rarity not old and probably more valuable, than not.

Sergal still produces the Sovereign of the Seas. The retail price is high - $900 to $1,000 - but I've seen many kits on e-bay sell in the $450 range.

Provided all materials and plans are present you shouldn't have trouble selling it.

The older Sergal kit (thos one from 1984) have much higher casting quality then the current sergal kit. Apart from that there is still a lot more work envolved in building the older kits then the current one, this as on those these kits had no lasered wooden parts snd everything needed to be sawn with a scroll saw by yourselve.
Choice between the old and the new version of the kit I would prefer the old one, in those days the top of the market.

AD: " Does anyone know anything about this kit or where to sell it. It was never started."
What's the price ? With shipment !

Well, if you do decide that you're gonna give it away, you can be sure I'll build it to its glory. See my finances are not that great so the chance of me buying such a ship is practically zilch, but if i can get one for free, heck i'll even pay for shipping.... A man can always try ha ...
