Old Model Ship

Back in 1962 my grandfather gave me this old ship... 64 years ago. He was 55 at the time and received it from an old shopkeeper in Texas when he was 10 years old. Making it at least 109 years old. He said it wasn't new at the time, so it might be much older. I have always wondered about it. Was once told was probably a "tourist ship" model made in Germany. Any thoughts?

Mexico also had a substantial tourist market too for anything from hewlery to clothing to glass to pottery to quilts. I'd start with Mexico and see if you can find similar pieces. It looks like a great treasure to remind you of your Grandfather! What a fabulous memory!!! God bless you!!!
