Mary, I’m sorry for your loss and hope that your model kits find good homes.

NOTE TO Kit BUILDERS: These are high quality kits! My earliest recollection is of my father building a Flying Cloud model from an AJ Fisher kit. In days past, these were the Rolls Royce of ship modeling kits. The old “Yellow Box Model Shipways kits can also be built into nice historically accurate ship models.

There are four models of the Clippers Ship era: Challenge. Newsboy , Young America and Sovereign of the Seas:

Challenge - in the 1850’s shipbuilder William Bates built several very fast shallow draft Clippers Schooners for the Great Lakes grain and lumber trades. Challenge was his first. She would be an excellent subject for the less experienced builder.

Newsboy A Clipper Brigantine. Two beautiful examples of this exist built by experienced builders. One is on the Bluejacket ship modeling kits co website and the other by Eric Ronnberg was shown in a past Nautical Release Guild Article.

Young America- Master model builder Ed Tosti built a wonderful example of this vessel and documented the process in a series of books available from Seawatch.

Sovereign of the Seas- Very fast Donald McKay Clipper.

Do not be put off by the solid hulls. This was the way models were built in times past, and is still preferred by many professional model makers today, and you don’t have to plank them. You can also shape a highly accurate hull and not have to rely on widely spaced bulkheads offered by the POB kits. My three solid hull kit models vary in age from over 80 years (my father) to over 50. They all look as good as new.

Even I, a dedicated scratch builder am tempted!

Thank you so much for your kind words and advice. I also hope these kits find a good home with someone who will enjoy building them.

I appreciate you remarks. Thank you again.

Mary,

To help sell your model kits I suggest that you post the “scale” of each kit. This will tell prospective buyers how large the finished model will be. You will find this information on the box, the instructions, and/or drawings. For example, your Sovereign of the Seas kit is probably 1/8”=1ft 0”. Newer kits would list this as 1:96.

Roger

Thank you for suggestion. I will do that shortly. Hope it helps but still good information to add. Looks like I may have sold Challenge.

I added information to multiply ship part 2 and will do the other post as well. Thank you so much. I am trying but do not know a lot about selling models.

Hello, I just sold that ship, Challenge. All others on both my "multiply ship" posts are available.
Thank you for asking.

Hi Mary I am interested in the rattlesnake material. I inherited the rattle snake And unfortunately it does not have the plans and a lot of the wood. Is the material still available.
Thank You
Keith

Hello, I did check my wood and nothing more for the Rattlesnake other than package of wood above I have attached paperwork from Bob Hunt regarding the wood.

Good Morning, I looked at all my ship materials and I do not have any wood other than package liste4d above. It is still available if your are interested.

I have attached some photos of wood parts that must belong to a specific kit. Can you tell what ship this would be?
Thank you for your help.

Let me know if interested in Rattlesnake package.
