I'm on the hunt for a good book about planking. I came across a book by Allan Tyler called Planking Model Ships. Does anyone own this book as I would like your opinion. Or what would you recommend.

An oldie but goodie from the old Model Shipways but now belongs to ModelExpo.

It says it is a PDF digital download, A hard copy is $10.

The subject would rate a chapter at most.

In my opinion the best book on hull planking - and also one of the least expensive, $10 from Model Expo - is Planking the Built Up Ship Model by Jim Roberts.

It describes in easy to understand text and illustration s how to plank a hull and also the correct way to lay deck planking.
PS Model Expo also offers a $5.00 digital download on their website.

Jim was a really knowledgeable guy but I had no idea this book was available Even though I am happy with planking I think I will order this book. It might make things even easier. Thanks for posting this.

I think I have all those old books. Unfortunately they are just old, black and white bad photos for example.
I think you can find better help on Youtube.
My personal favorite is Olga.
but of course there are many more.
Actually I think the best thing is if you can find someone/some people to build with. That's how we have been transferring practical knowledge since time immemorial.
Maybe there is an association for model builders nearby?

Ok guys here is the version of my booklet that is floating around. Please excuse me if I don't upload the latest version. It is on Amazon
Regards Allan Tyler.
This was the book I was talking about in my first post. This looks very good, thnx. $25.00 on Amazon, so an affordable price point.

Gentlemen,
The digital version of Jim Roberts book available on our website is no longer charging shipping costs.
When we listed the product on the new website we forgot to tag it as a non-physical product.

The problem is fixed. If anyone has any issues, please let me know.

Thank you DAWarden-(Jaager) for calling my attention.

Just went to order the digital download for $7.00 Canadian. At checkout it added on $35.00 for shipping. $42.00 total for an electronic download? Whoa! Too much!
The digital version of Jim Roberts book available on our website is no longer charging shipping costs.
Apologies for the mistake
