An old post, but for anyone interested in WWII Fleet Subs, the folks at the USS Pampanito Museum have done a stunning job restoring the boat to it's late WWII refit state. Lots of info on line, and the boat is moored at Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco. As a local, not place I recommend unless you are going to the Pampanito, Jeremiah O'Brien liberty ship or the Musee Mechanique, just because the area is a concatenation of tourist traps. Please ignore the post apocalyptic hellscape drivel you see on TV! The Jeremiah O'Brien has infrequent cruises around the bay where you have the run of the whole ship! When have you last been on an actual steamship?
