Hi All - I'm getting ready to start on my first card model ship, the 1:96 Caravel Pinta from Shipyard. The Instructions recommend using "PUFAS" putty on the hull below the waterline. However, that brand does not seem to be available in the US. Any advice from SOS members on a good substitute for that brand would be greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks for your kind words - we are doing our best
And also a warm welcome here on board of our forum.
I think, that not much of our cardboard specialists are looking into this area, so maybe you will take a special look at our building log area for cardmodels
Maybe some of the specialists like @Bonden , @Paragraf , @Ab Hoving , @AnobiumPunctatum , @Atamini and and and can give you here better advise

PUFAS is a German brand for a variety of spackle, filler, wall paste, and plaster compounds. In the US visit a hardware type store (Lowe’s or Home Depot for example) and pick up any one of the spackle or wall plaster compounds. Find one that is easily spreadable. This should do it for you.

Jim - thank you very much. Your advice clears up my confusion on this.

Uwe - thank you. I didn't want to put a lot of time building the model and then ruin it by using the wrong material on the hull. Jim Daniels' answer will solve that.
Again, thanks.

Christian - thank you. Your advice is very helpful. This gives me another option. Being new at this I am surprised at how detailed card models have become. I found a free model, the San Salvatore, online. So i'm going to try the suggested techniques on that one first.
Thanks again

I am not familiar with "Pufas" but googling it it is a company brand that makes a line of putty's and spackles like "Dap". I have used Dap Drywall Spackle with sucess but I prefer to cut and fit the parts carefully and not paint over the printed paper. You might find more specific answers to your questions at "Papermodelers.com"
