Q: How to install sheaves through bulwarks

I'm building a 1:64 scale model of Brig Niagara by MS.

For sheaves that go through the bulwark, are they blocks made a little thicker than the bulwark, planking, and ceiling, framed into the bulwark, planked around both inboard and outboard, and then sanded flush on a model? Is there a better way to install at 1:64 scale?

Does it matter much at this scale?

It is just as you have described, Glenn.
It was my understanding that the block could be removed and replaced as needed if there was ever damage to the sheave.

What ship/nation/year is your model? The following may not apply to your ship.

There are fixed blocks that hold the sheaves. I believe they are usually above the ceiling planking, but the block stands proud of the frames and the hull planking and spirketting or quickwork, depending on where the fixed blocks are located. The planking will butt against the protruding portion of the fixed block.

To size yours, start with the diameter of the rope that will pass over the sheaves to size the sheaves and slots.
