Little more various deck work. Still loads of trial fitting and night time light testing before final placement.View attachment 621547
Only discovered a few days ago that new clever electronics on led lamp bulbs now come with built in resisters in the actual bulb. Incredible View attachment 621546View attachment 621549View attachment 621550
Also been using this product for most of the smaller glazed windows, etc. Great stuff , looks the biz. View attachment 621551View attachment 621552View attachment 621553View attachment 621554
Now the really boring tedious job of the superstructure sides . Individual decking to place. This is not with the kit but an after add on product. Then obscure plastic sheets on the insides, then several black outs to give some cabins lights off effect. Oh then smoked plastic railings on each.
So boring but looks good. View attachment 621555View attachment 621556View attachment 621557View attachment 621558View attachment 621559
More soon.
Impressive work! Looks great.

Superb build. As a matter of interest, how many led's have been installed? :)
Hi Neil.
So far to date….. 11 smds. Purple, clear white, Blue, red and green. To highlight the lifts, navigation, funnel and vent stacks.
Two long strips of led tape lighting for the main hull body lights and a small length to light the Queen Mary 2 logo name.
Five 3mm LEDs (different colours) to power the fibre optics dotted around the ship. (Swimming pools, spas. Etc.
Fibre optic strands are .75mm.
All running on 12v mains adapter.
Hope this helps.
Few more to go……

WOW!! No disrespect to "plastic" kits Neil, but you really have elevated this to a new level! A fully illuminated ship like yours would grace ANY home or office. :) Thumbsup

Here is the orientation book that we used during the construction of the Queen Mary 2.

It shows every deck and fire zone throughout the ship from the keel to the top of the ship.

The top image is of the gas turbine room on deck 13.

Enjoy.

Just............WOW!! Beautiful work.

Keep up the good work Neil, she's VERY neat and easy on the eye. I look forward to seeing her finished with plenty of daylight pictures but even more so, lots of night time illuminated pic's. Well done on another great build!

Hi Neil,
Just so impressed with this project. I’m currently building the same model and also I’m going to attempt lighting it. Thank god for your pics as I have no idea about lighting a model.
I’d love to be able to contact you directly if I’m able, to chat about how you do it all!

Hi Derek.
Feel free. If I can help, I will.

What glue will you use to attach the photo-etched railings? Cyanoacrylate? There’s no issue with the wooden decking, but if they go onto a painted surface, do you scrape off the paint? It’s something I’m concerned about for when I start the Trumpeter Titanic.

Excellent work - looks so great - also love the backlighting of her name.

I was in Honolulu back in the early 2000s (2005/6 don't quite remember) and she happened to be docked at Honolulu Harbor- stunning ship indeed.

Regards,
