Question regarding metal fittings

How do you prepare the metal fittings for paint? For example the Soleil Royal from ZHL has many many metal decorations but they are not clean. Is it good enough just to use dish soap and water?

Tamiya make a primer that works well as a binder.

I agree with Bryian, using a small brush like a toothbrush.

I use automotive primer to all metal fittings I am planning to paint.

Put them in a carton box and spray.
