I have my model in hand and the supplies are on thier way. This kit is older than I am, but not by much. The instructions are good except there is nothing on how to paint. There is a blurb that states I will need Flat Tan, Flat White, Flat Biege, and Wood Brown (whatever that means). I also plan on using Flat Red, Yellow and Black for the decorations. As well as an Off White for the sails and maybe Red Leather for the hull of the ship, Im not sure.

First thing I noticed were these nicely engraved details along the side. This was a suprise since they didn't bother painting this detail on the box art model.

Can't wait to get started. In the meantime, I've been reading the instructions and familiarizing myself with everything.

Dear Evan! I'm looking at the box, at the parts, and I'm laughing! This is the most classic version of a model of Francis Drake's English galleon, the Golden Hind.

So, the "unnamed Spanish galleon" is just a marketing ploy. There are no parts of the Golden Hind in the kit that have been corrected, and nothing at all has been done to turn old Golden Hind into a Spaniard! The Spanish galleons were quite different from the English hound galleons, so I would recommend you forget about the box lettering and the sail designs and make the kit a 100% Golden Hind.

You're also unsure about the paint choice. Here's a standard paint scheme for the Golden Hind:

Oh wow, you're right. That makes me a little sad. When I looked at the hull I thought a Spanish Galleon would have a bigger belly, but what do I know?
Still, I will stick with a Spanish Galleon. Her figure head is an eagle and the stern board is the Virgin Mary. I can see why they didnt paint the hull decortations now... The pictures will useful, thanks!

Yep I knew I recognised the side design and the foc'sle design.

I have this one in my stash awaiting attention.
