I am using a set of plans for the Redjacket purchased from Bluejacket Shipcrafters to kit bash a vintage Marine Model Company kit of the Redjacket clipper ship built here in Maine. The kit was produced at 1’=1/6” making it necessary to reduce the Bluejacket plan set 50%.

I will be posting my previous MSW build log photos, as I and so many others have lost MSW.

Here is today’s progress to be followed by the rebuild of the log as I can get to it.

Oops had to affect repairs to the Main Mast. Example of hazards and fragility of this scale work.

I will fill in the log with photos of the previous construction from the beginning to this point soon.

And so begins my restoration of my MSW build log on the Redjacket. I began this journey Nov 30, 2023 with a Marine Model Company model kit of the RedJacket. The kit was given to me by another member on MSW with the understanding I would complete it in memory of a deceased uncle who never completed the model.

My first challenge was to shape the pre-carved hull to the correct lines of a clipper ship. The precarved hull was not even close.

Final shaping completed Dec 29, 2023

More latter…

Thanks on the bright side, missed this content on MSW, thinking Model Shipways Yellow Box N e w sboy may be my next project….

Thanks for the confirmation that this reposting is worth the effort and effort it is… Glad I could inspire you to take on a project like this. Seems I have a soft spot for grabbing vintage kits on eBay.

Dec 31 2023… Finishing the hull.

From this point forward I used the Bluejacket plan set for the Redjacket.

I used wood filler (plastic wood) to fill any grain or low areas.

The last post brings us up to Nov 2025. I will post my progress now from then to the current work I completed yesterday.

IMG_6544.jpeg

I rigged the Mizzen Mast first…

IMG_6548.jpegIMG_6549.jpegIMG_6563.jpegIMG_6576.jpegIMG_6578.jpegIMG_6580.jpegIMG_6582.jpegIMG_6592.jpegIMG_6591.jpegIMG_6601.jpegIMG_6606.jpegIMG_6607.jpegIMG_6609.jpegIMG_6620.jpegIMG_6637.jpegIMG_6702.jpeg

Some of the blocks are so small at 1/192 that I used knots and painted them wood.

Next up Shrouds and Deadeyes.

Cheers
