Replacing blades Proxxon DH40?

@Waldemar ,I will try this myself until I get a reasonable result, of course I hope for a perfect result, no guarantee because I am not a specialist in micro mechanics.
I have another problem too.
The main supplier in Norway has stopped negotiating, Proxxon.com is now trying to find a new main dealer who no one knows who is for now.
Sending my machine for overhaul will therefore be very difficult.
Not sure if the warranty still applies.
I will try it myself first, I know a bit about normal mechanics but not much.

Good luck. Please do not forget to make a final test upon completing your cutters replacement, that is to measure/check a piece of wood, cut with the freshly set blades, in terms of its cross-section shape (wedge-like or parallel surfaces).

Sending my machine

Which one? What's the defect?

Oh, ‘Waldemar’ is a different user, but he might want to cede his username to me :). For now, if at me, ‘-Waldemar-’ should preferably be used.

I feel that an appropriate diagram is in order.

It is not an inherent defect in a planer if the work table is not quite parallel to the cylinder (tool holder). It is only necessary to take this possibility into account when setting the blades, and set them precisely parallel to the surface of the work table, not the surface of the cylinder. Proxxon's instructions assume parallelism of the two elements, which can be a source of problems and a bad working result. And, according to my already quite extensive experience in this respect, in practice not all devices by Proxxon are ideal in terms of alignment of the working parts.

Excellent description Waldemar! A feeler gauge, used by auto mechanics to set spark plug gaps could be used to measure the parallel distance between the blades and work table.

A feeler gage is simply a set of shims of different thicknesses that pivot in a holder. One should be very inexpensive.

,-Waldemar-

I saved the diagram you show in my DH40 folder.
Amazing how much information has come out of this discussion.
Thanks, helps me a lot and probably many other DH40 owners.
Knut-

I'll start by cleaning under the side covers, a lot of dirt after many years of use.
I stopped removing the yellow top cover when I discovered that it was spring-loaded and that it was not necessary for this job, (blue ring in a picture).
Before I go any further I need to get Loctite threadlocker for the set screws that secure the blades.
So far so good-
