Hi, my mom is downsizing. She has this replica of the Santa Maria that she thinks it is handmade and around 250 years old. Do you have any idea what it might be worth and where I can post it for sale? I did a Google Lens search which led me to your post in this group. It's 37 inches long, 31.5 inches tall, and 14 inches wide. IMG_6012.jpegIMG_6016.jpegIMG_6017.jpegIMG_6018.jpeg

Thanks!

Hallo and a warm welcome here on board of our forum

I hope I do not demotivate you, when I comment this model - off course it is my personal opinion, maybe a specialist would say something different

The model is nice and represents a good made example of a decoration model.
More details than normal and seems to be relatievly good build.....
but it is not 250 years old - maybe the seller told your mother this story in order to sell the model - they are still offered but best time, when there was ahype was 30 or 40 years ago

These models (often it is the Santa Maria because somehow everybody knows the name of the ship) are mass produced in Asia (f.e. India) - it is somehow folk art

with google lens I made some research to find exactly your model, but failed - but there are so much similar ones

f.e. this one

offered for 95 Euro, but not sold until now

If you can sell this one, you have to try to sell it in your region, careful packing and postage would cost more, than you will get for the model

In germany and austria they are offered for 50 to 100 Euro - but I do not know, if they sell it for this price

Sorry, I am very sorry, that I can not give you better news

Just want to back up what Uwe has written without disappointing you and your mom. This could very well be a decorator model from Germany, if not Asia, probably made in the 1920s or 1930s. They can be found on ebay for under $100 US. No one knows exactly what the Santa Maria looked like as there are no known contemporary plans, paintings, or models of her but the Santa Maria was a three masted carrack and your model is similar in design to that of a carrack. If she wants confirmation on the value, she can try to contact an appropriate person at a local university or museum. No matter, if she liked having it that value cannot be put in monetary terms.

That's good to know. Thank you so much for your help!

Hi.
Sorry for my late reply I was busy these days so rarely coming here to read posts and messages.
There are a few FB groups dedicated for model ships for sale. so you could find them simply typing model ship for sale in search menu.
This model is more worth as antiquity - decoration than as a good true model. It looks really very nice due to the aging, old and simple build techniques, than as accurately made replica/ model.

I highly doubt that it is 250 years old, carefully looking at it I would say between 40-60 years not more. I am not sure what price you could get for this in the market, since, in my opinion this one has more of emotional heritage value than as a model value. It is really hard to me to estimate what it could be worth in the market since models could value from a few hundreds US$ to few thousands even dozen thousand $$.

Despite the age of this model I could hardly expect more than a few hundred bucks or even less, since it is just a decoration model which have been, for a long time, made massively in Vietnam, Korea, and Asia generally, than highly accurate display model worth a lot of money.
My personal advise- I would rather try to keep it for yourself since it has I am sure more emotional, and intimate value than true market value. Besides it looks nice as a decoration but not much worth in the market.
