I've recently found another cotton thread for making rope, mainly larger sizes. It's Muza crocheting thread of 3, 4, & 6 strand. It comes as 'laid left' (rope) & can be used straight off the roll. Laying it right makes cables & being a soft cotton, it takes stains & dyes well. I made the anchor & stay cables for my Le Superbe with it. My assistant Mabel gives her full approval!

I recommend this company's threads, a great Poland company. I am currently testing the polyester version named "Talia", I am very pleased with the effect. Their only drawback is that they need to be waxed lightly or burned with a lighter. Overall 7/10.
