Hi I’m aiming to vist chattam next week and visit the rope walk again , they have the longest and oldest , and still working top walk .
I’m hoping to take lots of pictures and post them as they may be of interest ( I also own a bit of the original rope and timber from Hms victory, from previous conservation ) also thes have a destroyer and a diesel sub there , it’s a good day out .
I normally leave my partner at home as she would lose the will to live if I took her there .

I would love to see some pictures of the Chattam ropery. I would also love to go there someday. Your lucky mate!

I lived in Britain 8 years ago and can't believe I missed seeing so many places like this. I did go to Portsmouth and visit the HMS Victory and HMS Warrior, They are what got me into sailing ships.

Hi Red Dragon,

I am about to embark on building HMS Victory and you have some interesting angles of the ship I have not seen before. I am particularly interested in the fine detail of deck and sculptures (eg figurehead etc).

Woul it be possible to have access to your photo collection of Victory? I can privately contact you through SOS if you wish,

Regards

PeterG

Hi Peter that’s no problem, I’m building a 1.78 Hms victory , so that’s why I took loads of pictures, I’ll send all my deck pictures etc to you tomorrow cheers ian

Hi, I've been to the Historic Dockyard Chatham a few times.
Once the Ropery had just finished the biggest ropes they make, 24" circumference, for the Victory restoration.
One of the best museums there is.

No worries next time I go and see the victory I’ll take 30 litres of magnolia paint and a paint roller and spruce it up a bit , I may paint the masts pink for a bit of contrast!.

A long time since I last saw her which was almost an aerial view from the top deck of P&O's Pride of Bilbao - c1997 - only lower masts fitted then, but still brighter yellow ochre.

Where are you based in the uk Martin?

I saw the HMS Victory with the old color scheme luckily. This new color is supposed to be historically accurate based off of samples found in original pieces... it just looks wrong. Should we start a petition to have the original yellow ochre painted back on?

Yes it all looked a bit bland , the beauty of being a modeller we can paint to please ourselves ian

This was originally in one piece but some half wits workers thought it was to be dumped so cut it up with a chainsaw , criminal , you couldn’t make it up

HORRIBLE colour!!:(
1. After a CONSIDERABLE amount of research and color chemistry, it has been scientifically determined that the colors currently on the Victory are (within very little margin for error) exact replications of the 1803 colors. They did not have Home Depot's wall of color chip paint samples available 225 years ago.
