Hello my dear russian speaking fellows,

is there a translation for " Куршея "?

That word points to the middle part of an old (end of 17th, beginning 18th cent.) galley/galliot (2 latin sails, >20 oarsmen, 2 to 3 canons) between the banks for the oarsmen ... seemed to be a "large box" mainly covered with gratings/light wooden planks, where the seamen stored their personal belongings and smaler stuff ...

And if you are not speaking russian but know old galleys very well, you are invited with pleasure to "name" that "part" - hopefully in german, but english/french will be ok too ;)
please take a look at https://galea-galley.livejournal.com/153642.html and/or http://www.jt-museum.narod.ru/9702/L970203.htm

many thanks and best regards, markus

ps: if you could name a good book (in german or english) about Galleys I'd appreciate that too!

Hallo Markus,
a real specialist about french galleys is definitely our member Gérard @G. DELACROIX who is the author of the well known monograph
of the Fleur de Lis
