The oak tree was actually my incentive to do this.
If anyone can handle oak, it's a Palatine.
Half our forest is full of them.
And to be honest, it wasn't even that difficult.
The dimensions of the strips are not available to buy and were specially made for me, which had the advantage that there were no colour differences.
I didn't even have to steam the wood or anything, everything was so fresh that it was easy to lay.
It may also have been due to the fact that I finished all the mouldings with 1000-grit sandpaper before fitting them.
I also made sure to lay the side with less grain on the outside, less risk of breakage.
All plywood parts were replaced by walnut and the sails were made of two layers of silk.
Greetings from the Palatinate

The display with the stone and map is absolutely lovely. Can you show a bit on how you worked with the stone base?
Thanks
Allan
