Has anyone built the dusek santa maria kit?

Well I guess it’s my duty to report on this model. I can’t do a full build log but I will post what I can. I bought this kit because I want to build the pinky “ glad tidings “ and wanted a simple kit (haha) to build first to sharpen my skills a bit. Initially I was thrilled because the quality seemed good and the laser cut parts are very accurate.

Unfortunately this is the instruction for planking. The supplied planks are 2 by 3 mm. So spiling is out of the question. The only thing that I can think of is a second planking

I was checking a video found in the net to see the planking strips

I am pretty sure, that these are the #30 strips for the planking and these are not looking like 2 to 3 mm - for me it is looking like a typewriting error -> please measure these strips in real !!!

all the other wooden material are not enough or not usable for planking

I think, that with some preparation, walter soaking and some heat with a bending iron you will be able to bend the strips without damages

Uwek, thanks so much for the help. I measured with my micrometer and the 90 pcs are indeed 2 by 3 mm. I have tried several different ways to bend and maybe have figured it out. I built a form that uses a clamp to squeeze the wood into shape. We will see

I have built the Amati Santa Maria. You may find that with linear tapering and (because your planks are thick, some chamfering) the planks will bend round the bulkheads and turn up towards the bow to match the illustration provided. So spiling will not be necessary.
Tapering to about 70% at the bow might be about right. I'm not sure about the stern; the Amati version is rather different.
