Santa Maria produced by Pavel Nikitin

So how do their models get damaged? Do they belong to customer or to Model Expo?

The model belongs to Model Expo and they use it in national model shows as well as many other models.

Except for the rat lines and the construction of the life boat my rendition of the Santa Maria is finished. I'll finish the rat lines this coming week ( I probably need 4 hours). But the life boat is another issue. I've struggled with this, put it back in the little box it came in and put it aside (perhaps thinking somehow I'd have an epiphany of how to finish it). I'll take out of the box and study it to see what I need do to finish the build. In the mean time I've attached some updated photos without the rat lines.

Looks really nice, Craig! Congratulations! The Santa Maria by Pavel Nikitin is probably my next ship I will work on upon completion of the Bluenose I am currently working on, so I've been watching your progress. Awesome work, sir! Will be referring back to this thread, I am sure, a few times for reminders and hints. Thanks!

GReat looking model
I am waiting with my congrtaulations until the ratlines are installed
btw: I am not sure, if the had the boat of the Santa Maria on deck, or maybe towed at the stern - so maybe no need to make the boat to have the model completed ..... ;)

The “instructions” put the boat on the deck. Worked a bit on rat lines yesterday. Another couple of hours. Perhaps I can complete the boat in a few days?!
Bluebeard asked what I’m doing next. I’ve got Blandford to finish and I’ve completed the hull on the Constitution and Confederacy. So there is plenty for me to do. And because I got carried away I’ve got a stash of boxed/unopened models waiting. I don’t plan to keep doing this Home Depot gig more than another year so I’ll have more time for modeling. That’s assuming I don’t get called home and at 76 that could happen. Have a great day ya’ll.

GGibson if you do decide to build Santa Maria one suggestion is to place the cannon on deck before installing the quarter deck above. I didn’t and it was a pain putting them in place!

Hi GGibson, If you get a chance check out the Vlog I’m doing on the Santa Maria PK.
It’s on YouTube under VanMac Videos. You may find this interesting of my experience
I’ve had so far.IMG_0014.jpeg

I was planning to work the "Boat" for the Santa Maria and thought that I would dissemble the work I'd already done and start over. The parts for the "Boat" are small and very fragile. But I then thought I would make easier and see if a new kit for just the "Boat" was available for a reasonable price. Sure enough ModelExpo has a kit for $35.00 US. I had an account which I deactivated so I tried to purchase the kit without an account. When I put my email address into the ModelExpo site a message came up told me the email address was associated with an inactive account. I was instructed that I needed to contact ModelExpo about this. Not going to happen. ModelExpo doesn't offer the chance to purchase as a "guest" as do most online merchants. This is surprising and frustrating.
So I've decided to try to build the "Boat" I have and see if I can make it look decent. If not I'll just forget it and finish my Santa Maria without a life boat.

Hi Craig, The boat is a bit of a challenge. Inside planks were miss marked with outside
planks. Outside planks 26L & 26R are shown inside and inside planks 31R & 31L are
shown outside. Plus the bottom of the floor board supports are missing. I was having a
heck of a time trying to do the overlap planking. Gave up and did traditional planking.
Applied two layers of plastic wood and sanded it smooth. I’m happy with the results.
Including some photos.

Thanks for you message and the pics. What you've done does look good. I do know what you said about missing pieces and confusing instructions is true. I've decided that I'm going to start again from scratch meaning that I will purchase a new boat kit. $35.00 plus shipping is not unreasonable. My problem is actually making the purchase from ModelExpo. I tried to purchase the kit online but there is no way to purchase without an account. Most online retailers offer the option of purchasing as a guest. When I try to reopen my closed account I get a message that I must contact then to activate an account.

Good morning Van Mac
I decided to re-start the life boat for the Santa Maria. I made an unsalvageable mess of the first attempt that I purchased a second boat. No finished yet but attached are photos of my progress. It's not been without a few issues but much better than my first attempt. What I found most interesting is the efforts will not be seen when the boat is placed on the deck of the ship. The space is tight and the planking of the life boat hull won't be seen and appreciated. This is in the end an effort to achieve self satisfaction.
I'll finish the boat this weekend and complete the rat lines and my attempt at the Santa Maria will be done.
