Allan, I hesitated to post because I figured that you of all people already knew this. For those that don’t know, Allan is one of the real experts on Eighteenth Century Royal Navy warships.
Thank you very much for the compliment Roger. The truth is that I know very little compared to many others but like you I do enjoy the research to try to find contemporary evidence to confirm everything and anything if possible. I did think this boat was 18th century but wanted to be sure. I asked about the source of the drawings because I have made the mistake of assuming far too many times in my life and have been called on it when wrong, and rightfully so.
Thanks again Roger, much appreciated. :)

Like most modelers, way back when, I dreamed about the host of models that I would someday build and like the guys that have a huge stash of kits, I bought books on anything and everything relating to ships and their models. I now have become much more interested in merchant ships of the 1850-1920 era and particularly Great Lakes vessels. So, I have recently been going through my library to slim down. Time to pass some on to the next generation.

If your model is sufficiently small, perhaps just some thick wire would do as I did with this small 18th century long boat. I used vinyl covered wire.

Thanks for this suggestion. This apparently works just fine for this model. I think that my VICTORY cross section would be too hard to balance once I get the main mast, all the yards and what rigging is needed installed. This will be a tall model, almost 36". Someone suggested looking at an Ace Hardware for loose screws. This was the ticket as I was able to get two 1" long, #4 wood screws which I then used to secure the model to the kit's round base after countersinking them in shallow holes drilled using a 1/4" d. Forstner bit. This solved the problem for now anyway. Because I am not to thrilled with the round one, I might change the base later to a rectangular one that I can mill to accept a glass or plexiglass cover. attached base.jpg
