The outside is painted

I’ve finished the mast except a coat of acrylic varnish.

The kit comes with a cloth sail to be furled. I’m going to try to make a paper sail that I can take some photos of it down before I furl it. I’ve been using this artist tea paper that is thin and strong when damp. It will be the first for me so we’ll have to see if go back to the one with the kit.

I first paint it with a light wash mostly water. The color soaks through so there’s no need to paint both sides. After I cut out the sail I cut 3mm strips and glue them on both sides all the way around. Now I’m in the process of marking and drilling the hole for the lacing. I think it needs a bolt rope so I’ll try that.

To layout where the oar lock need to be . It’s brought back childhood memories of playing G. I. Joe:-)

I’ve gotta finish those guys clothes if they are going to be seen in public:-)

Perhaps. Or perhaps not...

John 21:7 Then the disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” As soon as Simon Peter heard him say, “It is the Lord,” he wrapped his outer garment around him (for he had taken it off) and jumped into the water.

Blessings.

You are so right, I mean the Bible is. This boat is going to the library of the Memphis School of Preaching. I got to have them clothed:-), mainly for my reputation:-)

I’m trying to figure out the rigging. I finished the sail but I maybe making another. Here is a dowel I taped a piece of paper and furled it and temporarily tied up so I could get some idea of how it needs to be. The kit instructions just show the minimum rigging detail. I have close to zero knowledge of how it should really be.

I tied the sail that I have finished to the temporary yard just to see if it fit.

It could be a bit larger I believe. I’m going to display it down and furled like this.

I probably wouldn’t have the make a larger sail if I didn’t want to take some photos of it deployed before I furled it. Your opinion is very welcome!

Looks nice, but in my opinion, a lateen is a very unlikely sail on these boats. If at all, I'd rather give her something very basic, low and rectangular.

Yeah, Scott Miller chose to make the 26” a lateen instead of a square. ( the 16” kit is a square) Maybe because he was trying to cut down on the width of the model? I think there maybe some mosaic pics found with a lateen? We probably won’t ever know for sure. The cut water and everything else above the water line, I think is our guess. I’ve made blocks for the rigging just for the show of the model. I bet a first century shipwright knew how to rig a boat like this a lot better that a retired sprinkler fitter:-) Thanks for the compliment and the comment!
