I am getting closer to the rigging phase of my Vanguard build.

I see in many other posts a lot of the rigging is seized (second layer of horizontal wrapping)

Many questions on how to do this arise and I have not found any answers in this forum or elsewhere.

Q1: What is the diameter of the seizing line?
Q2: What material is best to use?
Q3: Where can you find where the seizing starts and finishes on the rigging line?
Q4: After the seizing is done what if anything is applied to the thread to prevent it from shifting or loosening? PVA glue, shoe polish, CA?
Q5: How are the ends of the seizing line secured?

I’m sure more questions will arise but this is a start.

Thank you for your answers.

Michael.

Check out Olha Batcharov's channel on Youtube. A lotta useful hints and info about that.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I haven't been able to find a Batcharov video that answers my questions. Albert are you able to supply a link or more detail?
whipping is what you'll need to master...
Thanks Paul I will look into this.

Unfortunately there hasn’t been much response to my questions and I am still floundering trying to get some more specific and detailed information.

Hoping that refloating this thread may generate some responses.

Thanks
Michael

I was sloppy in my original post when asking about seizing. What I meant to ask was about Serving rope.

I want to serve the standing rigging including the shrouds and preventer stays as examples. What I am struggling to find is any information on

Q1: What is the diameter of the serving line?

Q5: How are the ends of the serving line secured?
Q6: Which ropes are served?

Hoping some of the SoS family can shed some light.

Michael
